A Pretty Good DimSum

Sunday, November 1, 2009

I thought I wouldn't be able to wake up this morning after hitting the sack at 3:30am, but I did.. because the tummy growls after sleep and it needs to be fed. You're probably saying "yes yes we know you get hungry often.." but but you need to understand the love of food overtakes the love for sleep. Hehe.

Even though the brain says "sleep sleep sleep..." we managed to make our way to Unique Seafood to have dimsum (which is halal by the way). My friend Chris works here and she told me that everyday the restaurant offers 50% for dimsum from 11am-2pm. Although this would be my second time here, I still get excited seeing the many rows of fishes & sea creatures in their tanks waiting to be served. But there's no need for any chopping today because we're just having dimsum. And since I'm not certain of what it says on the menu, my friends ordered and this is what we had...
Siew Mai
Prawns in blueberry sauce
Prawn wanton
Shanghai dumpling
Radish cake
Fried rice
(a dimsum which I can't recall the name)
Total bill: RM 74.05 (after 50%)!

At one point I thought I was going to pop the zipper off my jeans but thank goodness that didn't happen. We left at 2:30pm right after the dim sum ends. So I reckon you'll want to try it out especially on a weekend when there's not many people (because they don't know yet about this place which has been running for many years now..). Try it!

Happpyyy Halloween

It's a Halloween night and even though culture wise we don't celebrate it, putting on costumes & acting freakishly cool with friends seems like a good way to spend the weekend. This time, there were 9 of us entering Bossa Nova and another 2 more came later... which I must is the biggest group gathering that we've had since such a long time... We arrive at 11-ish which in disco world meant we're still early but we had a chance to scout for a good table until Chris wanted to move to one that was nearby the toilet (because she didn't want to stand so long..)! Arghh..! But it's ok, we still got to watch the Thriller dance by the new studio called RainbowFace and they were quite good actually although I wished that the did a few more songs or with more dancers! That would have been fun. After that it got a bit dry most probably because of the music... either that or I'm getting a tad old and don't really want to go for a party where there's a lot of talking going on... I must say there should be a highlight of the evening but after that it should be music all through til morning.. boy I miss those Liquid days.

A thriller dance to end the Halloween night.

After taking a more random photos of ourselves, we decided to end the night and headed to Jln Alor for some midnight snack which turned out to be a full blown supper. What started off with barbeque chicken wings ended with yee mee yin yong, singapore meehoon & fried sotong. The damage was RM100 but since there was 6 of us, it was a good amount to spend before we ended the night. If our friend didn't have a gastric attack, we would have stayed there longer & ordered more dishes! It was definitely a good way to end Halloween.. until next year folks.... maybe with costume then..

Your mouth is watering now isn't it?

The moment we all waited for...

Agency of the year went to Leo Burnett Advertising for their big win for Film titled "Funeral" the client being Ministry of Community, Development, Youth & Sports Singapore. They won a Golden Kancil. Watch the video..

Poster [Single] - FINALIST, Bubble Wrap, Dentsu Utama Sdn Bhd

We're happy when we saw this on the screen & even happier when I realized that my name was included... @nutana should be included in this too as she did this project from start to finish. We'll try again next year.

The year before, our ex-colleague went up on stage during Kancil to receive an award for PSP (or was it PS2?), and this year another ex-colleague went up on stage to receive bronze for the P1 Wimax Radio in BM! Congrats to Syah.. you totox person you! We're so very proud of her. Oh yes, we missed the Yasmin tribute and even though the food wasn't superb, our eardrums almost gave way to the speakers (thanks @kuzaster for putting us right near the stage, but smack right beside the book box) & also to the screams & shouts from Naga, Grey & Ogilvy who were sitting around us. There weren't that many submission this year perhaps because of a more strict jury with higher expectations but everyone seemed to in a celebrating mood. Would next year bring more good work & ideas? We're gonna sure as hell try.

Happy Birthday @Stephanie

We haven't celebrated much birthdays since August.. (because of the puasa month most probably). So here's a good way to restart it .. with @Stephs' birthday! @ayeen3131 made everyone wish @Steph Happy Birthday and we're still waiting for him to break into a song ala Marilyn Monroe version. *ha-ppee birth-day too yew* (whispery). Hope you have a good one since you're always there for us when we need help and the earliest one to make it to office everyday.. we can always count on you. *muackss*

Small in Size but Big in Bite

Thursday, October 29, 2009

I love having lunch with Clients because it just beats having a meeting in a closed up space with dim lights and super cold aircond. Also because when the food calms the tummy, it also calms the nerves and just spreads a lot of cheery feeling. I don't normally order the lunch set @ Chef & Brew but this time the menu seemed quite appealing:

Pumpkin soup
Grilled Salmon with rice & veggie (bento)
Dessert
Coffee / tea
*Only RM16.90*

Although the pumpkin soup was quite bland or should I say cair (diluted), the grilled salmon wasn't that bad. But the dessert compensated everything else in the end, small chocolate moist bite size thingy which was so so so argghhh... orgasmic? Perhaps... too bad we could only have 2. And I must say after good conversation + good food, the Client decided to look over the visuals we gave her and provide feedbacks after she comes back from her break. Food does do good things for your soul. :)

Dinner in the Cave

The entrance of The Cave - SS2

The lovely cave-like ambience as you walk in & at your seating booth.

Fusion dishes served: Ravioli (left) & Chicken Teriyaki (right)

After the cave adventure, there was another cave adventure. This one. From the time it was first completed, we were curious as to why the restaurant was all covered up like some secret society outlet. And then I guess when they wanted to get more people to come to their place, they opened up the main door and had a cave protrusion outside and a host to invite people in. Which is a good idead because my first thought was that it may be an entertainment centre! Yikes.. but don't worry it's not.

So we walked in, greeted by the lovely host at the reception area and from there the elements of the cave sets in... the walls the floors were all cave-like just like the ones in Mulu! They took us to the second floor where the whole area was only for couple or 3 people in a booth seating.. all covered in limestone which felt and looked so real. The experience was surreal, just like dining in a real cave except this one came with good lighting & melodious mariachi singers. They played romantic tunes right outside our booth which we could see from our see through curtain.

The food are all fusion. I did hear from a friend that they used to serve Asian but I guess they wanted customers to try something new so there's no more Asian food but there's a whole lot of fusion. Compared to the experience, the food is just ok to us. Not bad but not superbly sedap, but they capped it off with an amazing experience of just dining in a cave. Price wise average I would say is RM25-RM35 per dish depending on what meat/poultry/fish. You should try it out especially with more friends... that way it'll be much more fun!

Happy Birthday Merina..

Everything was perfect. The weather, the kites and the friends who came to celebrate her birthday. We had a little picnic, flew a few kites and headed to a nearby cafe to blow outs ome candles.

Happy birthday and may all your wishes come true!

More traditional delicacies

I did forget for awhile that Raya is not over yet. There were still a few open houses to attend this week, next week & the week after next. But I did decide to head to my Clients' place after the Food Hunt KL for some Raya dishes and ended up craving over this dish once I left. It's actually roti jala with kuah durian or serauh as they call it up in the north. Normally you would eat this with curry chicken & this is the first time I'm taking it with the lovely fruit and it still tastes as good even if it's a bit sweet. Now I can't stop thinking about it.. I think I'm going to ask my mum to make one so that I can eat with bread everyday!
